Thank You is a 2022 Tamil comedy-drama film directed by Vignesh Shivan and starring Vijay Sethupathi, Aishwarya Rajesh, Raashi Khanna and Sathyaraj in the lead roles. The film revolves around Abhiram, a successful but self-obsessed businessman who decides to thank all the people who supported him whenever he failed in life. Plot

Abhiram (Vijay Sethupathi) is a wealthy entrepreneur who runs a chain of hotels and resorts across the world. He is arrogant and believes that he is self-made and does not owe anything to anyone. He is also estranged from his father (Sathyaraj), who runs a small grocery store in his hometown. One day, Abhiram receives a letter from his father, inviting him to attend his sister's wedding. Abhiram reluctantly agrees to go, but only for a day. He also takes along his girlfriend Priya (Raashi Khanna), who is a famous actress.

On his way to his hometown, Abhiram's car breaks down and he meets Anu (Aishwarya Rajesh), a cheerful and kind-hearted auto driver who helps him reach his destination. Abhiram is surprised to see that his father has arranged a grand welcome for him and has invited all his old friends and relatives. He also learns that his father has been sending him letters every month for the past 15 years, but he never bothered to read them. Abhiram feels guilty and decides to spend some time with his father and family.

During his stay, Abhiram gets to know more about his father's life and struggles. He also realizes that he has been ungrateful and rude to many people who helped him in his journey, such as his school teacher, his college professor, his first employer, his mentor, and his best friend. He decides to thank them all personally and apologize for his behavior. He also reconnects with Anu, who turns out to be his childhood friend and crush. He develops feelings for her and realizes that she is the one who truly loves him.

Meanwhile, Priya gets insecure about Abhiram's growing closeness with Anu and tries to sabotage their relationship. She also reveals that she is pregnant with Abhiram's child and blackmails him to marry her. Abhiram is confused and torn between Priya and Anu. He also faces a business crisis when his rival company tries to take over his hotels. He has to make a choice between his career and his love.

Production

The film was announced in December 2020 by director Vignesh Shivan on his social media accounts. He revealed that he had written the script during the lockdown period and had approached Vijay Sethupathi for the lead role. Vijay Sethupathi agreed to do the film after hearing the narration and suggested Aishwarya Rajesh for the female lead role. Raashi Khanna was signed as the second female lead after impressing the director with her performance in Sanga Thamizhan (2019). Sathyaraj was cast as Vijay Sethupathi's father after the director felt that he would suit the role perfectly.

The film was produced by Sun Pictures and had music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The cinematography was done by R. Velraj and the editing was done by Sreekar Prasad. The film was shot in various locations in India and abroad, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Ooty, Hyderabad, Dubai, London and Paris. The film was completed in a span of six months and was ready for release by December 2021.

The film was initially scheduled to release on 9 January 2022, but was postponed by a week due to the clash with Master (2021), another Vijay Sethupathi starrer. The film was released on 14 January 2022 in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages across 3000 screens worldwide. The film received a U certificate from the censor board and had a runtime of 127 minutes.
